At Amplify, making a great video isn’t enough.

We know that digital media, combined with smart strategy and the right road map, is the kindling that ignites social change.

So, what are we doing to light a fire?

Amplify worked with the Time to Care Coalition to produce a video about the extreme under-utilization of New Jersey’s landmark Family Leave Insurance program. After seeing the video at the Coalition’s “birthday party” for family leave at the State House in Trenton, New Jersey State Senator Barbara Buono, the likely Democratic candidate for governor, introduced legislation to create a $3 million public awareness campaign and prevent the state from reducing the pool of benefits for non-use.

Amplify created the first digital companion for the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s national KIDS COUNT franchise, the gold standard of child welfare data in each of the 50 states. The video, backed by solid research and distributed through a comprehensive social media strategy, was a part of the program at Casey’s KIDS COUNT symposium in Washington, D.C., featuring experts on youth ages 16-24 who are not in school and unable to find meaningful work. The panel featured Melody Barnes, President Obama’s former White House Domestic Policy Director.

Amplify produced a TED Talk-style video featuring New Jersey Institute for Social Justice President Cornell William Brooks, who spoke about the nationwide movement to “ban the box” on job applications that ask applicants to check a box if they have any prior criminal history – even if they were arrested but never convicted of a crime. The MacArthur Foundation selected an excerpt of the video to be a finalist in their national Looking@Democracy competition. Legislation was subsequently introduced to outlaw the practice in New Jersey and hearings on the bill, The New Jersey Opportunity to Compete Act, will be held this summer.

Amplify produced a video to communicate the national impact of the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Poverty & Opportunity grantmaking portfolio, based upon AECF’s grantee data, as a call to action in support of the Foundation’s efforts to reduce poverty and expand opportunity in America.
